With Putin's war speech the other day, Russians are protesting in the streets.
Russian authorities made more than 1,300 protest-related arrests on Wednesday as thousands demonstrated against President Vladimir Putin?s move to call up military reservists into the country?s armed forces, according to the independent Russian human rights group OVD-Info (https://ovdinfo.org/).

Will this be the fall of Putin? Will the 1,300 Russians arrested be the first conscripts in Putin's new military? Didn't this happen once before around 1917? Isn't funny how we do not learn from history.

on the other hand, Russian government is reported to have shut down their borders, with particular attention to keeping all males 18 - 65 inside for military call-up. SOURCE: Forward Observer. I'd also presume conserving critical war materials to keep them in country and etc.
Hey wait - if a 2nd tier nation like Russia can shut down their borders in an hour, why can't the United States do this with our SOuthern Border for illegals ??? Oh , never mind , the answer is a matter of political agenda. Besides, if Joe shut down our borders it would be to corral and kill all opposition. I lived behind the iron curtain and as I remember, it was not that great of a Socialist Paradise.

I seem to remember that one of the pivotal moments of the Soviet withdrawl from Afghanistan came when Russian mothers took to the streetss to protest the deaths of their sons. The Soviet regime couldn't/wouldn't take action against that and hold the country together. I imagine (and hope) we will see that again.

It could be a small part of it but I am more inclined to be watching oil prices and inflation/interest rates.

I'm inclined to agree with Nemo. I think the October Surprise will be more along the lines of world economic collapse. You might say "When the money hits the fan". :faint:
