Shutdown Chess: GOP's Final Offer to End the Stalemate and Win Long-Term

Folks, we're on Day 27 of this government shutdown, and it's a mess - 800,000 furloughed, SNAP for 40 million at risk by Nov 1, and air travel snags piling up. As a former West Marine VP, I always played the long game, not chasing short-term wins that fade like a sugar high. This shutdown's a political chessboard, and the GOP needs to sacrifice a knight to capture the queen. Here's my take on how they can end this now, dodge the "healthcare for illegals" trap, and lock in a full budget by Dec 31 for a real win. Think Lenin in 1921: "One step backward, two steps forward."

The play: Push a "final offer" vote this week (Oct 28-30) for a clean CR with a small concession -ACA credits for citizens only, no "illegals" funding. Hammer Dems on X and ads for holding SNAP hostage over their $1.5T ACA/IRA demands. If they don't bite, nuke the filibuster mid-November with as many Dem crossovers as possible (target Kelly, Ossoff, Slotkin, and others) to look like adults in the room. The queen? A full 2026 budget by Dec 31, with border security and no immigrant healthcare. Here's the strategy:

This ain't caving - it's chess. Give ACA credits (citizens only) to get a CR and a budget that locks in GOP priorities. Dems "end game" $1.5T for subsidies, some for illegals - gets checkmated. If they block the vote, nuke by mid-Nov for hero optics before the holiday. Long-term, a budget avoids CR nonsense and strengthens 2026 midterms. Preppers, this is why we stock up - gov't drama proves the system's fragile. Stay ready, stay sharp, and as Jim always says, "keep your head on a swivel".

I suspect between Tuesday, Nov 4 and Fri, Nov 7. 

Pushing things off to after the elections, so the Dems can scream we fought for you for all we could.

    Went to a Dollar General store today, and it was a zoo.  I guess people needed to zero out their EBT cards.  It looked like a supermarket just before a big snowstorm.

     The longer the Democrats wait to finalize a continuing resolution, the hungrier people are going to get, and the more likely there will be violence.  But I guess that?s what the Democrats want.

There are $42M Americans on SNAP benefits. How did that happen? Certainly Civid-19 played a part but????

With governor election going on in Va, Gov Youngkin said the state would take over the payment for November.  Noted elsewhere around here.

Bad news for elections of his Lt. Gov up to Gov were food stamps not in place.

Very good strategic move for Youngkin and Earle-Sears.

I have heard no comments on the bad side (trump stopped food stamps) or good side (youngkin/sears saved the day) in the political campaigns.  But I have no doubt that the word has got around. 

And there is that Court Ruling that the govt cannot withhold allocations to states and must send money from the emergency fund.  But that appears like it cannot happen under current laws.
