Title: Reloading info needed
Post by: JohnyMac on January 12, 2012, 05:16:06 PM
I am thinking of buy some IMI M193 5.56 Nato 55 gr FMJB cartridges. Does anybody have any experience on reloading this specific round? My main concern is the primer / primer pocket. Will this brass take standard small rifle primers?

I haven't reloaded that case yet. My understanding is that all Military rounds have a crimped primer. I've been told that you can chuck your deburrer in drill and deburr that crimp. The fellow who told me is in the know so I have not reason not to believe him.

I have loaded a wide variety of 5.56/.223 brass they use small rifle primers I use cci no.41 primer says on the bax for 5.56. On the crimped primers i use my deburring tool to remove the ridge before priming (its a must for me i have a hand priming tool)

You can do that, or they make a variety of specific primer pocket reamers, or you have the option to swage.

It probably has the little tabs/crimps on the primer but if your able to deal with it its reloadable.

Yes Dillon does make a deal that pushes that crimp out in one easy step.

The dillon super swage is a good option. I had one in the past but sold i and got a reamer instead. Gave me some extra cash to get some other reloading items. I dont know what type of press you use. But if its a SS, several companies make swagers for them

Personally I don't understand why anyone would want to crimp the primer on a 5.56, now a 300win mag sure.

I believe the military crimps their primers to make them more reliable in machine guns.
