It's 5 days till, possibly, the most important day in my lifetime. I've got material preps and peace with God and man. Yet, I'm still irritated that I wasn't able to work in some professional training. I went from school to a demanding summer job and now I'm back in school again. Every six months or so I've had to move to a completely new location where I know very few people. I've tried to get my body into shape only to discover that I have a torn meniscus in my knee and failing with my weight goals.
In other words: I'm not ready and it's my fault. Land navigation? Nope. Buddy team movement? Nope. Timed 1-mile runs in full combat load? Nope. Medical training? Nope. Long-range precision marksmanship? I wish.
Am I alone in this? You have to take care of your responsibilities but I can't get rid of his nagging feeling that I've been lazy.

Nope. I'm so far behind its not even funny.

No one can ever truly be ready. Just do what you can now, especially with your health and fitness. Don't have to kill yourself, just do things like walking a lil extra and cutting out all sugary drinks. As much as I hate to say it, cause it is NOT a substitute for teaching, you can always find good videos on land nav and FA on youtube. Get training where you can to get an edge, just remember that you aren't the first or only one to be in your situation.

I'm finally up to the point where I can run a mile. My record is 10:26. Compared to where I was a year ago, this is a huge triumph for me. I only have soda on special occasions. :))

I have a list a mile long of to do's. We all do. Aslong as you do what you can the rest is out of your hands. Dont worry about whats out of your control.
-
Don't be hard on yourself buddy, a man can only do what he can do.
Now on the otherhand if you have been slacking off and not doing what you need to be doing then get shitty with it, become best friends so you'll remember what it is when you procrastinate

10:26? that doesnt sound right. Are you breathing in through your nose out your mouth slowly? thats what i do and i run a 5:15 but i want to be a Army Ranger so i have some motivation. Find something to motivate you and keep a smile on your face while you run instead of thinking how much it sucks. Try that and see the difference but dont over do it.

unlikely
unless you have been running for years i don't see how that is possible.
I run a solid 8 minute mile in boots, it's taken me a year to get that far.
-
I ran a 6:30 in 4th grade.
-
well fuck.
I did have some terrible asthma that prevented me from running when i was young. I grew out of it but still.
Anything under 8 is pretty fast, but then again i don't know much about running.

Yes i have been running for years and im 16. Trust me im slow compared to my friends who run track. i have one that runs a 4:25 no problem. Just start off im almost a sprint and keep going no matter how far back your mind quit.

All of this talk of running has my knee hurting... Do like suggested to me and just hump a heavy pack (20-50lbs, start light) for a few miles. Wont get the cardio that way but will def get a workout from it. Get your cardio from something less lethal on the knees, cause they wont last forever lol

Dont worry i couldnt run a 6:30 if a bear was chasing me now. If i am in the 8's id be pretty happy.

don't feel bad. i just started getting serious about PT and I've been prepping forrr.... how many years now? [img]http://www.arrse.co.uk/at
that being said, i'm freakin exhausted from working out lol.
-
I just ran a mile to see where im at... i belted out a horrific 9:30 with 1/4 of the run being a decent incline. In my defense i havent ran a mile in many years. Most of my exercise is while shooting or backpacking.
Anyways heres a clip of me right after my run.

I think running at all is good. As long as you keep up with it you'll do fine. For me I am focusing on distance. I run a minimum of 2.5 miles. If I don't have to stop for streetlights it would be about 16-17 minutes...For me I think that's impressive. If I can run this fast and hard for that distance I think I can run 1 mile fully loaded at a decent pace without a problem. I am a big dude, 6'2" 210(on a good day) The thing that will make running easiest, is tons of hydration...
Now, the whole land navigation thing...need to get me some maps...
