I forget the member who planned on carrying one. If you're reading this show yourself Ive got something to discuss with you. :chuky: lol

I'm not allowed to own one in this shitty country, but the FAL is standard issue for Argentinian army, if things go really really bad, I might end up having one of those.

I think it was Burt

I also seem to recall pep saying something about it..

Well for who ever it was and for who ever cares.
I Reaver Maximis scarsvagimus just acquired an Israeli FALO
Matching numbers ( minus the imbel receiver that springfield armory had to use ) Hebrew double markings on every nook and cranny. 21" heavy barreled with bipod. Beautiful FAL
Unfired since import. Original wood. Sexy ass rifle.

Kit, Chinese type 63 sks 20 rounder chest rigs. ( 5 20 round FAL mags plus two admin pouches / Ifak )
If you haven't noticed they're in the jungle. Its not really the coolest climate. Shirts check. Fuck boots wear sneakers check. Stupid hat that is actually 10x more useful than a craft navy seal special ninja forces baseball cap. Check
Rhodesian- fnfal is good everywhere.

However I seen a PTR91 pistol that would love a fat tax stamp out all over her.

The reason why I started this is because I would like to buy a black ugly rifle chambered for 7.62x51 (.308 Winchester).

black ugly rifle.
Let me refresh your memory. Its EBR properly known as Evil Black Rifle. Caliber can vary from 5.45 up to the general largest of 7.62, but they all fit the EBR definition and description.
Instead of the FAL I would suggest you look at what is know as the Modern Sporting Rifle (some say Assault Rifle or AR 15) in the 7.62.
Or you could go back a few years and go with the old reliable military arm called an M-14.

All depends on what you want jm
Picture it like this jm you got three sisters to choose to marry.
One is the hot sexy knows how to handle a man in bed but isn't really trustworthy. She's also really into material items and expensive to maintain.
The second is a decent looking piece of tang, cheaper to please than the younger hotter sister but still requires a nice date every couple of days because " she's a complicated woman "
The third sister is the ugliest fattest sister, shes the cheapest date around and is more happy to cook and clean for her man as long as you keep oiled up when the time comes for her pleasure due to her age. " women problems I think "
1.AR10
2.PTR
3.FAL
the AR10 will give you a common system wth accuracy out the box. Better for longer range and ease of training.
The PTR has the cheapest magazines is a great design and is pretty but won't give you the greatest accuracy and is a little more difficult to maintain.
The FAL will give you the best in between all around accuracy and reliability but she cannot be ran dry she needs to be lubed up constantly. She's also the easiest to field strip. IMO

Great write-up RvR! thx :bravo:

To add a little to what Reaver said (I agree with him on most points except maintenance), the AR style platform (because unlike the AR 15 they are not all interchangeable) can give you the best ability to tailor your rifle to what you want. You can go very lightweight carbine, mid weight DMR type, all the way to dedicated Precision rifle. You can pick the characteristics you want and go that way. Also with the proliferation of AR heavy type manufacturers you can get an decent price range that allows you to pick what fits you best. PSA has jumped into the game pretty heavily with some decent products at a good price point. Aero precision is also doing a good job with a relatively lower price point rifle and ADM just came out with a range of solid performers (mid-price point). My own 7.62 semi is currently an LMT MWS. It gives a great balance between a solid carry able carbine and a moa-perfomer out to the 800yd range. My personal favorite to get would be the Knights Armament SR25 ECC. However at a price tag around $5k it wont be happening any time soon :o.
To add to your original list I wouldnt forget about the SCAR 17H. Very lightweight, excellent accuracy, easy to maintain. It is brutal on optics so you really need to think about what to mount up. I really liked my SCAR and only got rid of it because I only need so many semi 7.62s and I decided on my LMT.
My List would go:
1.AR type
2.SCAR
3.FAL
4. PTR

Great comments Chris.
For kicks and giggles here are the retail price for each:
My List would go:
1.AR type LMT... $3,000-
2.SCAR ... $2,800-
3.FAL ... $5,000-
4. PTR ... $1,200-
Average price is $3,000-
With a quality (Receiver and barrel) AR-10 upper going for ~$1,100 you could buy a 80% lower and the appropriate hardware to make it go bang and have a top notch rifle for ~$1,500. Just thinking out loud here.
-
I was one of the FAL guys. I picked up a used enterprise arms import franken FAL. Surplus Argentinian lower. New manufacture upper and 21" barrel. I am making it a dm rifle. Sounds like you got yerself a real peach of a FAL rvr. Im very happy with mine. Congrats.

The Aero Precision which has a good quality barrel and bcg, full length keymod rail is $1499. I have handled a few of these, they are a great deal. Also not widely known, Aero Precision actually manufactures lowers for a large number of the "big" brands that are out there.

Your prices are sky scrapper high bro.
You should be able to get a cheap FAL for no more than 15 same with PTRs. Scars are retarded expensive for what they are IMO ( Refipricating charging handle KILLS that system for me ) and ARs I don't like so I ever cared to look into.
-
LOL...Thx RVR. those are retail prices or gotten from gunbroker.com.
-
You can get LMTs for $2500 and SCARs are regularly around $24-2500.
Reaver after you have run a SCAR or an AR style .308 for 2800rds over 3 days their advantages over the FAL stand out a ton more. Being able to run a 16" carbine that shoots a ton softer and is significantly more accurate than the 20" barreled FAL is defintely a win. That said I would still take the FAL over the PTR.
Neither however looks as good as a beautiful wood furnished FAL. Those and a quality M1A have an aesthetic that is hard to compete with.
-
As it sits. Could never run that many rounds through a rifle I can't afford.
What I can do is read history books. Until the scar or AR10s have been around for 50 years + of fighting in every condition known to man. I'll hold out.
Some will call me ignorant and blahzablah but I as a broke bitch I need to substitute history for rounds down range when it comes to testing. I'm sorry that's just the way it is till I hit the lotto. Hope that makes sense for a few at least.
