I have been doing a great deal of self reflection as of late.
In this I have rediscovered and recognized who and what I am.
There is a bit of context here. A very good friend of mine a few years ago aske me some very probing questions. We were at the pub so I answered his questions with truth that actually disturbed him a bit.
Let us start out with the way I am and will be in relation to SHTF. I will take care of mine and my own, then will take care of as many people as I can.
Now that the benevolent part is done, let us deal with the difficult stuff.
I was a sniper in Panama and ended up being in charge of 18 sniper teams. aside from the normal training I stressed how a sniper team can be a combat multiplier. First by providing intel on the enemy with optics, second by calling for indirect fire on enemy positions and then using aimed fire to interdict an enemy location.
I want to focus on the interdiction fire for this post.
Yes selecting machine gun crew is important, yet there is an even more valuable target.
Take the time to find the baby brother, youngest soldier of the unit you are watching. Then due to the fact that being the junior member of the unit. They will be the one that will be serving chow. You shoot him as he is doing this. So the majority of the unit see's thier kid brother die in front of them.
This is how my mind works.
A big difference from the civilian mindset.

I swear we need to get a shipping container and get you, your wife, dogs and stuff in and bring you here. The day I hit the lottery I will make you a job offer you cannot refuse.

if you get into a fight, fight to win.

No worries there.....
For my sins I am looking forward to getting into a fight.
Kinda strange living in a civilized society hoping for SHTF so you can get back to the real world where you meet a threat with extreme violence.

its nice to feel alive. it gives a clarity to life.
there isn't anything wrong about being a sheepdog :)

Some great stuff folks.
Me I am patiently waiting for a fight. With that written I know 5 minutes after it is over I will be saddened because of the mountain that must be climbed to put an end to it. Not unlike trying to put tooth paste back into the tube.
Interesting point of view gadget, "Take the time to find the baby brother, youngest soldier of the unit you are watching. Then due to the fact that being the junior member of the unit. Me (Sorry citizen mindset) I would do like what Morgan and his Riflemen did at the Battle of Saratoga and go for the ranking solider. You know...Throw the troops into confusion by cutting the head off of the rattle snake.
Good stuff gents...

Sorry about the morbidity of the subject. Was doing some self reflection and kicked a mental hornets nest. So needed to air it out a bit.

Don't let the appeasing modern morality affect your self worth. Any man would be honored to call you his friend.

Quoted for truth!

Oops...
I just realised I left out the context in the OP.
This tactic is used when you are prepping to attack an objective.
The sniper team would if possible setup days prior to the attack to offer eyes on Intel of the objective.
Ideally the shot I am talking about needs to happen prior to the attack.
Then the sniper team would call for fire on the objective and interdict heavy weapons teams on the objective during the attack.
Cheers.
