Title: Hurricane Harvey
Post by: JohnyMac on August 28, 2017, 09:14:57 AM
Any articles or comments concerning Hurricane Harvey post on this Subject line...

As the pictures and videos come in post Hurricane Harvey drama MrsMac and I are praying for all of the folks caught in that area.

I had a West Marine store in Clearlake Texas, which was along the coast about 30 miles or so south east of Houston. Heck when it rained normally the area would flood. I can only imagine how it is now.

As I have described in the past, we wake up to NPR on the alarm radio. As I laid there listening to the radio, I was aghast to the questions that reporters for NPR were asking of folks. Some questions they were asking are:

> Has Trump done enough for the area?
> How has FEMA performed under the Trump Administration?
> What do you think about Trump coming to the area to witness the storm tomorrow? Don't you think it is too
soon and he will hinder rescue operations?

Anyway, you get it. So Hurricane Harvey is just another way for the media to slam Trump.

Today, I am going to stock up on petrol as the price is going to go up.

On another note: I wonder if this is the first of a series of Black Swan events to come.

Something is wrong. The price of oil at 2:42PM is $46.58 a barrel down $1.29. Has the government released it's reserves to keep the price down? I heard on the radio gas was to go up as much as .25c a gallon.

@JoJo -
there's lotsa sources of crude around the world - many outside the effect of the hurricane... But...
1/3 of the lower 48's refineries are being slowly drowned by the aforementioned hurricane.
supply and demand.  it's gonna take a month for the refineries to come fully back on line.

@JM a co-worker of mine, who lives in Houston, has decamped to the inlaws in San Antonio to wait it out - his house is under water up to the ground floor windows.  most of their belongings are upstairs.   They had plenty of warning about the coming storm.  Just waiting to see what is left when its over.

Interesting Nemo. If I was going to loot, it wouldn't be beauty supply.

On another note: Compare the neighbor helping out neighbors in the Houston are vs. the rioting in Berkley by the ANTIFA. Can we just give up on politics for a couple of weeks?

I understand that some of the rescuers have been under gun fire, that's so crazy.  I'm really surprised the price of gas hasn't popped up.  I'll be filling the vehicle tanks and some spare cans later.

I filled everything up yesterday. I keep about 50 gallons in reserve for the Generator, Lawn Tractor, etc. We have a place up the road where I got it for $1.94/gal.

If I owned a store and there was a disaster, I'd be camped out in the store with food, my Handi-talkie, my Carbine, and 500 rounds of ammo.

Gas jumped here from $2.49 to $2.59 a gallon today. With 20% of the nations refineries off-line till further notice I suspect we will will see $3+ gas by the end of next week.

There are many far reaching issues that will cause a slump in the economy thx to Hurricane Harvey. With inflation just being one of the challenges we will see thx to higher fuel prices.

On another note: With less crude being made into gas, hence the supply of crude will be high and prices will drop. How will this affect nations like Russia and regions like the Middle East who's economies rely so much on oil revenue. Winters just around the corner folks.

I have a few Brothers from My paratrooper past in the area of this.

Things are grime yet people are taking care of their neighbors and making things happen.

I would counsel that the spirit of communities have shown that all Americans are and will stand together.

Forget the attempts to divide us.

Peace brothers
