cw/p
« on: July 29, 2025, 08:49:50 AM »
Last week's and this week's ERIN report have been portable from upstate NY.  I have an LNR mtr4b, an inverted vee dipole, straight key and camp stool.  The antenna is some bare wire, a cobra head and some RG58 coax.
Last week the signal reports were good.  Especially Sir John, he was booming in.

I told Sir John I would try to add some pictures.  Here's the rig all set up and ready to rock.

Here is the antenna ready to hoist.  I am mulling over some ideas for a setup that is quicker to put up and take down.

Just to show that Murphy is alive and well;  Our weekly sked was a no-go. Neither of us heard anything.  Sir John's rig was working.  I tried 2 antenna/coax combinations.  Nothing.  It may be the radio.  Have to fiddle with it when I get home.  I should have brought the backup rig.  ::)

Hey Cooter,

Good to see your QRP/p in the pics.  It really is a PRACTICAL portable set-up.  The BEST 'comms computer' is the one between your ears!

Nice setup Hope.

As requested, a list of portable kit contents:

Container - ' waterproof' box from Wal-Mart
Rig - LNR MTR 4B (1st version)
Power - 8 cell AA btty holder with power plug (same plug as ft-817/8)
Spare bttys in little plastic carriers.
7 ea. Rechargeable NiMH bttys in holder (8 bttys puts pwr to rig at >12v, so I made a dummy batty with a piece of dowel and a small strip of
               copper
Key - MFJ small, plastic body straight key (you need mono RCA plugs for a straight key)
Logging - notebook and pencil
Other - walkman type headphones; ear buds; SO-239/ bnc male adapter

I think that covers it.

This weeks sked went well using same rig and station antenna.  Testing portable antennas does not reveal any problems so far.  Operator headspace is looking like the likely culprit.
