September 2025 Tuesday Night ERIN NETs SOI
« on: September 01, 2025, 12:11:12 PM »
The next ERIN(2) net will be Tuesday September 30, 2025, starting at 1900 hrs. eastern with the digital ERIN net.

The PACE for the digital net is as follows,

1) At 1900E hrs. digital net (NCS is usually on frequency at 1850E hrs.) will commence.

Primary         7.110 Mhz SB Contestia 4/250, 1000 on the Waterfall
Alternate       3.588 Mhz USB Contestia 4/250, 1000 on the Waterfall
Contingency  This email thread
Emergency    Signal(1). Do I have your cell phone number?

When the Net Control Station (NCS) calls for check-in's this is the reporting format,

de your call, your call/name/location/W-TFC or No-TFC/ de your call

All traffic (TFC) will be passed via MFSK32. I suggest using the FLmsg ICS-213 or the AmRRON Custom forms.

NCS will convert mode from C-4/250 (Contestia 4/250) to MFSK32 and then instruct check-ins one at a time to pass TFC.

Once TFC is complete, NCS will return mode back to C-4/250 for the wrap up of the QSO.

At 2000E hrs. there will be a voice (phone) net

2) At 2000E hrs. (I am typically on frequency at 1950E hrs.) will commence.

Primary         7.193 Mhz LSB or higher till clear air
Alternate       3.898 Mhz LSB or higher till clean air
Contingency  This email thread
Emergency    Signal(1). Do I have your cell phone number?

The above SOI will be used at first, if the interwiz is taken down through Executive Order -- Assignment of National Security and Emergency Preparedness Communications Functions. Then we will develop and share a revised SOI.

73 & God Bless,
JohnMac

ADDENDUM:

Attached to this post is a PDF of the SOI if the grid goes down. Also,
A PDF of the phone script (Voice) if anyone would like to volunteer to be a NCS.

Currently, I am looking for NCS's for digital and phone. Drop me a PM if you would like to volunteer.

This is the NCS schedule for July is

            Digital         Phone
Week 1   JohnyMac     JohnyMac
Week 2   JohnyMac     JohnyMac
Week 3   JohnyMac     JohnyMac
Week 4   Hope           JohnyMac
Week 5   JohnyMac     JohnyMac

Quote
(1) The Signal App is being used instead of text for emergency's. Go to my post, When The Interwize Goes Dark, for an explanation.

(2) A quick history of ERIN (Eastern, Region, Information, Network). Just after President Trump declared a state of emergency, March 2020, I was asked by NC Scout (Brushbeater.org) to NCS a Covid-19 net, as we were worried that misinformation, intentional or unintentional, was coming out of the main stream media. The net was five days a week, Monday through Friday and it was a voice net (phone).

June of the same year, the net was reduced to three days a week, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. By August it was reduced to one day a week, Tuesday evening's at 2000E Hrs. phone only.

As digital grew in popularity, I introduced a digital net at 1900E Hrs. the same night starting in 2021.

These two nets have been every Tuesday night since January 2021 with only a few interruptions thanks to the NCS volunteers.

The purpose of these nets is to do the following,

     > Fellowship, connect hams with other hams,
     > Testing of equipment and alternate modes,
     > Pass traffic concerning ones AO. Traffic typically consists of,
        - Localized weather report if out of the ordinary.
        - Fuel availability & prices, petrol/Diesel.
        - Civil unrest if any.
        - Unusual Military movement if any.
        - Other interesting local news.
      > Training. To help hams become more confident in TXing & RXing, practice being a NC or ANC station, and
          all other that
applies to prepare for a localized or national drama, and
      > Serve as a conduit to connect hams who have radio equipment to sell or looking for.

Thanks to Hope here on UP, attached is the script for the 2000 hrs. phone net. Still looking for a NCS or two to back me up for NCS duties.

I want to thank all the hams that regularly participate on these nets. I am looking for NCS (Net Control Station) volunteers, in case one day I am hit by a bus.  :D

OOPS! I was distracted by an issue with one of my guitar amps and when I looked at the clock it was 8:30 PM. I won't bore you with the details about what amp it was but the voice coil in the 12" speaker just opened for no reason. What a piece of crap. It only lasted 35 years before breaking down. Fortunately, I had another one that was a much newer version that the final amp was blown, so I swapped out the 16 Ohm 12" dead speaker with the 8 Ohm 12" speaker from the dead amp and the amp came back to life. For those who are not well versed in speaker ohms, an 8 Ohm speaker will work just fine as a replacement for a 16 Ohm speaker. The 8 Ohm speakers actually sound a little bit brighter and clearer. The audio amps get really pissed off if you try to go down to about 2 Ohms. My ERIN report would have been pretty boring as it would have been the same as last week with the exception that it was overcast all day long.

I just noticed it.  I was thinking Silver had hit a fan and numbers were all over the place on prices and frequency of purchase/use.

* There was a bit of overflow from a station south of the border.
I did not hear them when I called out at 1945 asking if the frequency
was clear. As the net moved along, I started to hear them in the weeds
however, their QSO did interfere with other stations who checked into
the ERIN net. Also, it is interesting that the station did not appear on
my water fall  🤷‍♀️ but as the net progressed they did show up. Propagation
is an interesting animal. Hopefully, our net did not interfere with their QSO.
   ✌

I attempted to check in multiple times, but I guess the vertical wasn?t up to the task.  I was able to copy most of the net, but the Spanish speaking stations were booming in, definitely stronger than the NCS. I may try an IC-7300 next week. Mostly because it has a built in antenna tuner.

Kackalope: The 7300 tuner is very good unless the VSWR is above 3 to 1. If it's higher than that, the tuner refuses to even try. I use an LDG autotuner that will tune a wet noodle.

95% of the time I use a manual tuner vs. the transceiver tuner. A Palstar AT2K manual tuner to be specific. The dang thing seems to be able to tune a brass bed frame. ✌
