MrsMac started seeing a new neurologist, and we were at his office for a series of tests and interviews Thursday. I brought along
Patriots by James Wesley Rawles to reread, and it was resting on my lap when the doctor walked in to introduce himself to MrsMac and me. He noticed the book and asked about it.
I explained that MrsMac and I are preppers and that
Patriots is considered a cornerstone for preppers, whether new or seasoned. His eyes lit up, and he turned to his physician's assistant (PA), who had conducted the preliminary tests & interview, and mentioned that a previous patient, a prepper, had predicted COVID-19. He added, "There's nothing wrong with being prepared. I'd love to pick your brain about this at a future visit."
After a few health-related questions, the doctor left the room, leaving the PA, MrsMac, and me. To my surprise, the PA started asking me how she could start prepping. She confided that she's been quietly stockpiling extra food, despite her husband - an investment banker - dismissing the idea as unnecessary, convinced a "rainy day" will never come.
I've had similar chance encounters with people like the doctor and the PA before. In nearly every case, I've been able to guide them toward preparedness, whether for a major disaster or just a bad snowstorm.
I always thank God for these opportunities to connect and share. ✌
